Re: Problem with HDMI audio using intel hd 4600 graphics

Hey gents. I'm working on an ASUS N550JV-DB72T with the HD4600 chipset.

I am having the same issue and just found a cludge after reading through this thread. It doesn't involve updating any drivers.

On a fresh boot all is fine and dandy. Shut off the TV and turn it back on and no audio over HDMI.

Solution:

  1. Ensure HDMI cable is connected and everything is on
  2. Open Device Manager
  3. Click View --> Select Show Hidden Devices
  4. You'll notice that "Intel(R) Display Audio" is pale (not exactly greyed out)
  5. I right clicked and chose "Scan for Hardware Changes" (as enable/disable wasn't available)
  6. After view refreshed automatically, the device was no longer paled or washed out looking. It was NOT however listed as an option to choose in playback devices (Accessed by Right Clicking Volume Control in system tray) and didn't even show up if I chose "Show Disabled Devices" in the Playback Devices interface.
  7. But now that it wasn't pale anymore, I could Right Click the device in device manager and Disable the device
  8. Wait for the refresh and now Enable the device
  9. Unplug the HDMI cable, wait a few seconds for the machine to register the disconnect
  10. Plug it back in and now the audio works fine via the HDMI port.

One heck of a convoluted workaround til Intel fixes whatever they broke from that earlier version of their drivers. Perhaps this calls for some scripting, but that's an awful lot like doing my job at home. At least at work they pay me do it.

Hope this helps some people.

Message was edited by: Tony C. Major error where I said I had just Right clicked properties and this "unpaled" the device.
