Apologies in advance for newbie questions but I (hoping fortunately!) stumbled across this thread when trying to figure out why HDMI audio suddenly stopped working after replacement soundbar installed. HTPC running Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. Reading through thread pretty convinced my problem is the same but not sure how best to proceed. Friend built HTPC for me - looking at Newegg invoice, I see that is a Gigabyte motherboard "GA-787M-D3H 1.0 1150R" and Intel Haswell kit "Core I5 4430 3.0G 6M R"
My questions:
-- How do I determine what rev of Gigabyte motherboard I have so that I can figure out if there's a newer version of BIOS? I can diligently follow instructions so will figure out how to update it BUT not clear if I should, i.e., whether BIOS part of the problem
-- Unlike some other posters, I do not see anything (exclamation mark) in Device Manager indicating that there is a problem with the Intel Display Audio or Intel HD Graphics 4600 drivers. They are (ver, date) respectively: 6.16.0.3129, 10/16/2013 and 10.18.10.3412, 1/22/2014 Assuming there are newer drivers, should I install them (specific one or both)?
Any all help/advice gratefully received. Thanks
UPDATE: As consensus on this thread appeared to be that a BIOS update was the most common/reliable 'fix', I opted to go that route and attempted to update to F9 (Gigabyte support said very likely wouldn't be able to update to the latest version - F10 as required an update to onboard flash utility - they were right). Not sure if update was 100% OK as now Windows won't start and Startup Repair is chugging away as I speak. Watch this space! :-)
